Although Lucas has forgotten more about bourbon than any of the rest of us will ever know, his cocktail genius extends well beyond brown spirits.  A font of obscure historical drink knowledge - and a mastery of techniques deemed too time-consuming by most of the rest of the cocktail world - combine for unique and delicious results in his weekly clarified milk punches and quirky ingredients like maubys and switchels (don’t worry, we had to look it up too).  Hailing originally from middle America, Lucas now calls the Junction home, along with his wife and young son.  He also tells a pretty good Dad joke.

Aleks Russell

Aleks’s first night at famous last words was the 2017 Junction Night Market.  It started to rain, the place got really full, really fast, and he spent 5 straight hours making complicated cocktails from recipes he’d never seen before.  Much to our shock, he came back, and boy are we glad he did.  With a passion for creativity and an insatiable curiosity, Aleks likes nothing better than to be challenged to make an off-list cocktail for a book club or a guest with an adventurous streak.  If you really want to see his eyes light up, ask him about his absurdly extensive home liquor collection (or Tom Waits).

Kristi’s smiling face brightens up the bar 2 nights a week and, as our extraordinary server, somehow manages to keep dozens of drink orders straight in her head all at once.  Someone’s got to be the grown-up, so Kristi has become the de facto Mom to our little group – but, like, the cool Mom who buys you beer and is the most fun at parties.  When not working at flw or at her other full time job, Kristi loves to travel, take photographs, cook with – or for – her son Austin, and is well on her way to becoming an Instagram queen.

Marlene Thorne

Marlene (that’s me!) had the idea to combine books and cocktails and took the dizzying leap from a career in corporate marketing into small business ownership.  My goal was to build a comfortable, inviting and approachable space for anyone who wants to explore books and cocktails, regardless of how much, or how little you know about either of those things.  I’m so grateful every day for the amazing team that has become the heart and soul of this little book bar and for everyone who chooses to spend an evening with us.  Thanks for welcoming us to the neighbourhood, supporting what we do, and making it a genuine pleasure to be here night after night!
